FBI to pay up to $150,000 after fugitive’s arrest
LOS ANGELES — Federal authorities in Los Angeles say they will pay a reward of up to $150,000 following the capture of one of the FBI’s most-wanted fugitives, who disappeared for nine years following the shooting of a sheriff’s deputy.
The FBI said Monday at least one tipster would receive money after 37-year-old Emigdio Preciado Jr.’s arrest in rural Mexico last week.
Preciado, a reputed gang member, had been sought since the attack in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier in September 2000. A gunman shot at two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, badly wounding Michael Schaap in the face.
The other deputy was uninjured. Schaap recovered from his wounds.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says Preciado will be transferred to Mexico City for extradition proceedings.
