NEW DELHI - The Editors Guild has denounced an attack on the Bangalore office of the business news channel UTVi last week as an “attack on free media”.

While it is still not clear who or what motivated the attack, the Editors Guild condemns the acts of violence and expresses solidarity with the team at UTVi, it said in a statement here Wednesday.

The UTVi office was attacked July 11, in which two people were injured and some office equipment damaged. Later, the TV news channel’s Mumbai office also received threatening calls.

The Editors Guild hoped that police in Mumbai and Bangalore investigating the attack and the threat will soon identify the culprits and make early arrests.

Attacks of this nature are designed to intimidate and prevent the normal functioning of a media house, and must be taken as an attack on free media, said the statement.
