6.4 earthquake off Mexico’s coast; no damage
MEXICO CITY — A magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Mexico early Wednesday, but it caused no reported injuries or damage.
The underwater quake hit at 2:16 a.m. local time (3:16 a.m. EDT; 0716 GMT) and was centered about 170 miles (275 kilometers) southwest of the tourist resort of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco state, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Jose Trinidad Lopez, director of civil protection in Jalisco state, said officials did not find anyone who even felt the quake, which occurred at a depth of about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers).
