Earthquake jolts northwest China

URUMQI - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale Friday jolted the Kalpin County in China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Province, officials said.

The quake occurred at 6.02 p.m. Friday at 40.7 degrees north latitude and 78.7 degrees east longitude, the state seismological network said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, it said.

Kalpin County is 1,200 km from the provincial capital of Urumqi.
