The sepoy of the Defence Services Corps (DSC) killed his senior around 3 a.m. in the Kanpur Proof Range (KPR) in the Panki locality. KPR is a place where weapons made in the Kanpur ordinance factory are tested.

Gupteshwar wanted leave and was having a dispute over the issue with Lance Naik G. Gajendran. Early Friday, he shot Gajendran with his service rifle. Gajendran received five bullets and died on the spot,” Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Lal Bahadur told IANS. Apparnetly, Gajendran had denied Gupteshwar leave for a few days that he wanted.

“We have arrested Gupteshwar and recovered the weapon,” he said.

“The incident came to light when another trooper reached KPR to replace Gupteshwar. Gupteshwar told the other sepoy, Indra Kumar, that he had a brawl with Gajendran after which he shot him. Kumar instantly called up the local police and Gupteshwar was arrested,” Bahadur added.
