NEW DELHI - An assistant sub inspector of Delhi Police has been suspended after a woman alleged that he tried to rape her when he came to her house to record a statement, an official said Saturday.

The accused police officer, Vedpal of the Vijay Vihar police station, Friday visited the victim’s home in Rohini Sector 1 to record her statement after receiving a report that she had a scuffle with her neigbours.

‘I was alone at home when Vedpal came to my home. Finding me alone in the room, he tried to rape me,’ the woman alleged in her statement to the police.

‘We found the allegations true and have suspended the ASI after registering a case against him,’ Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Katiyar told reporters.
