BHOPAL - An indefinite curfew remained in force in parts of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh Wednesday, a day after communal violence erupted, with officials saying the situation was tense but calm.
One person was killed and nearly 40 people were injured in Tuesday’s clash between Hindus and Muslims in Mahidpur area. The injured included three police officers.
The unrest erupted when the police stopped some Muslims returning from a Milad-un-Nabi procession from going to a place where Hindus were holding a religious function.
According to Inspector General of Police Pawan Jain, some of those stopped stoned the police, who used batons and tear gas to disperse them.
