Court upholds life sentence of man for killing wife

NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Thursday upheld a life imprisonment sentence given to a man for murdering his wife and also pulled up the Delhi Police for its shoddy enquiry in the case.
‘No society can progress where half of its population are denied equal right in law. Woman also has the right to be treated equally,’ a division bench comprising Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Aruna Suresh said.
The convict Raju killed his wife April 30, 1999. Raju was convicted by a trial court in 2001 but two people were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The court asked the senior Delhi Police officials to initiate a enquiry against sub inspectors Harish Chander, Jai Prakash Meena and Mukesh Kumar for the shoddiness of the investigation and submit a detailed report in six months.
