Dead woman found in NYC building duct was killed
NEW YORK — A medical examiner says someone killed a woman whose body was found hidden inside a New York City skyscraper where a cleaning woman vanished days earlier.
The homicide ruling was issued Sunday.
Medical examiner’s office spokeswoman Ellen Borakove (BOR’-uh-kohv) says the woman found Saturday in an air-conditioning duct at a building near the World Trade Center site died from having her airway obstructed by tape on her head and face.
The dead woman’s identity hasn’t been released. But police presume she’s 46-year-old cleaner Eridania (ehr-ee-DAH’-nee-uh) Rodriguez, who last was seen at the building Tuesday night.
Police spokesman Paul Browne says blood leaking from the 26-story Manhattan tower’s ventilation system led police to the body.
Investigators had traveled Friday to a Pennsylvania landfill where the building’s garbage is taken to see if Rodriguez’ body had been dumped.
