Continucare buys Professional Sleep Diagnostics

MIAMI — Continucare Corp. said Thursday it bought Professional Sleep Diagnostics Inc., a company that operates 13 sleep diagnostic centers, for an undisclosed amount.

Continucare is a physician outsourcing company. Professional Sleep Diagnostics has facilities located in North and South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Colorado, and Ohio. Its centers conduct sleep studies to determine whether a person has a sleep disorder, and if so, what type of problem the person has.

The best known sleep disorder is obstructive sleep apnea. Continucare says more than 18 million U.S. adults have sleep apnea.

In afternoon trading, Continucare stock rose 8 cents, or 3.1 percent, to $2.67.
