Conn. mom, son get probation for deadly 2005 crash

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut woman and her son have been sentenced to three years probation for attempted insurance fraud and evidence tampering after a wreck that killed four people in 2005.

Donna and Shaun Wilcox of Windsor were also given 300 hours of community service Tuesday in Hartford Superior Court.

Donna Wilcox’s husband, David Wilcox, was sentenced to six years in prison June 24 for manslaughter, assault and insurance fraud connected to the crash. The wreck was caused by a poorly maintained dump truck with bad brakes owned by Wilcox’s company. Four people died and 10 were injured when the truck crashed at the bottom of Avon Mountain.

Donna Wilcox pleaded no contest to charges she tried to reinstate insurance coverage after the accident. Shaun Wilcox pleaded guilty to doctoring repair slips.
