KOLKATA - A local Congress leader was killed Wednesday after being stabbed from behind as he took his morning walk in a village in West Bengal’s Malda district, a party legislator said.

Wahid Ali of Sujapur village, 365 km from here, was attacked by criminals, Sujapur’s Congress legislator Mausam Benazir Nur said. She blamed the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) for the murder.

‘At least four criminals attacked Ali and his brother. Although the brother escaped, Ali was stabbed,’ said Nur. Ali was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

‘Before dying, he gave us the names of those who murdered him. They were all CPI-M activists,’ Nur alleged.
