Colo. man charged in Kan. over hostage incident

TOPEKA, Kan. — A fugitive from Colorado is charged in Kansas with kidnapping for allegedly taking a newlywed couple hostage at home in a small town outside Topeka earlier this month.

Jesse Dennis Dimmick was charged Wednesday with two counts of kidnapping, and one count each of theft, aggravated robbery, possession of drug paraphernalia and battery.

A spokesman for the Shawnee County prosecutor’s office says Dimmick remains at a Topeka hospital. The 23-year-old Aurora, Colo., man is recovering from being shot in the chest during the Sept. 12 hostage incident.

Dimmick is wanted in Colorado in connection with the slaying of a 25-year-old man found in a motel in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

According to court records, Dimmick did not yet have an attorney Wednesday.
