Clarification: Mortgage fraud story
LOS ANGELES — In the first paragraph of an Aug. 10 story about a mortgage fraud trial, The Associated Press reported that real estate agent Joseph Babajian was acquitted in the scheme, while two others were found guilty. The paragraph should have noted that Babajian was acquitted only of several charges.
As the story later pointed out, Babajian was acquitted on 13 counts, but jurors deadlocked on eight other counts and the judge declared a mistrial. Prosecutors have not decided whether to retry Babajian on the deadlocked counts, including criminal conspiracy, bank fraud, money laundering and loan fraud.
