Chinese statement on Arunachal condemned

NEW DELHI - China’s criticism of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh was Thursday flayed by a student body that called it “a deliberate ploy (by Beijing) to divert world attention from the pressing internal problems of its ethnic population”.

The New Delhi-based Non-Aligned Students and Youth Movement (NAYSAN) chairman Subhash Chowdhary said the criticism of Manmohan Singh was aimed at diverting attention the “events in Tibet which was attracting world attention”.

China considers the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as its own. The Chinese media have warned New Delhi not to provoke Beijing by staking claim to Arunachal Pradesh.
