CHENNAI - With its Indian client base increasing, Chinese power equipment manufacturer Harbin Power Engineering is considering setting up a service centre in Tamil Nadu, said a top company official.

‘We have orders worth $450 million in India. We will first look at setting up a service facility, then look at building a power equipment plant here,’ said Ge Xin, Harbin’s vice-chief engineer and general manager of marketing.

Harbin Power will be supplying the boiler, turbine generator for the 1,200MW thermal power project promoted by city-based Coastal Energen in Tuticorin.

It has supplied power generation equipment to power projects of Essar and Balco and has signed an agreement with the Adani group.

According to Xin, the company will venture into India on its own and not partner with any Indian company.

Harbin officials will meet state government officials Thursday.
