ISLAMABAD - A Chinese engineer, who was abducted by the Taliban in August last year, has been released, officials said Sunday.

The engineer arrived at the Chinese embassy here Sunday after he was released Saturday by the Pakistani Taliban insurgents in the northwestern part of the country.

China’s envoy to Pakistan Luo Zhaohui met Long Xiaowei and offered him greetings. Luo also thanked the Pakistani authorities for securing Long’s release.

Luo said the Chinese embassy would make more efforts for safety and protection of Chinese citizens in Pakistan in collaboration with the local authorities.

Long, who is in good condition, has expressed his thanks to the Chinese government, and the embassy in Pakistan, as well as the Pakistani authorities for securing his release.
