Chidambaram to visit Srinagar

NEW DELHI - Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram is likely to visit Srinagar on June 11 to review overall security situation in the State, according to sources.

The likely visit will be in the backdrop of ongoing protests in Kashmir over alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian.

Chidambaram during his proposed visit will meet State Government’s top officials, Army, paramilitary forces, intelligence to take a stock of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chidambaram is said to have been briefed by Raman Srivastava, the Special Secretary Internal Security, who returned from the valley on Sunday after a three-day visit during which he met representatives of the state government, Army, central paramilitary forces and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. (ANI)
