Calif. gov hails 2 firefighters killed in LA blaze

LOS ANGELES — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger joined thousands of firefighters from around the country in honoring two veteran firemen who died last month fighting the largest wildfire in Los Angeles County history.

Schwarzenegger was the first speaker at a memorial at Dodger Stadium on Saturday morning honoring Capt. Tedmund “Ted” Hall and firefighter specialist Arnaldo “Arnie” Quinones.

The two died Aug. 30 when their truck, plunged off a mountain road in the Angeles National Forest as they searched for an escape route for a group of inmate-firefighters helping battle the Station Fire. The blaze continues to burn, although it is now more than 80 percent contained.

Schwarzenegger said he was “humbled” by the firefighters’ bravery.

Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak at the memorial later.
