Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region

Tropical Depression Chan-Hom is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm as it moves through the South China Sea. The system’s slow progression will keep it to the southeast of Nha Trang, Vietnam before it advances northeastward toward the Philippines. The storm is not expected to make landfall.

DENVER — Hundreds of people were stranded at shelters Friday night after transportation officials shut down an 80-mile stretch of Interstate 70 between Vail and Golden because of wet, heavy snow and multiple accidents.
