Boston Globe to resume talks with largest union
BOSTON — The owner of The Boston Globe will resume negotiations with its largest union.
This development comes more than a day after talks to cut millions of dollars from the union’s contract ended at an impasse.
The New York Times Co. has threatened to close the Globe unless unions agree to $20 million in cuts.
The company has reached agreements with six unions, and the Boston Newspaper Guild remains the holdout.
Officials from the Times Co. and the Guild say talks will resume Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The Guild, which represents about 700 editorial, advertising and business employees, has said it offered more cuts than demanded. But the offer did not include an end to lifetime job guarantees.
