NEW YORK — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange:
NYSE:
Boeing Co., up 1 cent at $52.29
The company expects to record a charge of $1 billion in the third quarter due to higher costs to produce 747-8 airplanes.
Pepsi Bottling Group Inc., up 3 cents at $37.34
The company, which is being purchased by PepsiCo Inc., said its profit rose 10 percent on a favorable tax audit settlement.
St. Jude Medical Inc., down $4.84 at $33.40
The medical device maker St. Jude Medical Inc. said it will report lower-than-expected third-quarter profit due mainly to sales.
MGM Mirage, up 59 cents at $12.13
The casino operator will cut prices by 30 percent on condos when already lined up buyers close on deals at its CityCenter development.
Corning Inc., up 69 cents at $15.50
An analyst upgraded the company to “Buy” from “Neutral” on improving demand for liquid crystal display this year and next.
NASDAQ:
NutriSystem Inc., up $2.41 at $17.46
The company said its starter weight-loss program would be available beginning this week at more than 3,200 Wal-Mart stores.
Avocent Corp., up $4.34 at $24.86
Emerson Electric Co. has agreed to buy the company for about $1.2 billion in cash to offer better management of data centers.
Arris Group Inc., down 98 cents at $11.69
An analyst downgraded the communications equipment maker and said lost sales from a key customer could put pressure on profit margins.
