BMW Group May US sales decline 20.3 percent on soft demand for BMW and Mini models

BMW Group says June US sales slip 20.3 percent

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. — German automaker BMW Group said Tuesday that June U.S. sales declined 20.3 percent because of soft demand for its various models.

BMW Group sales, which includes both BMW and Mini models, totaled 20,849 vehicles last month — down 20.3 percent compared with 26,155 vehicles sold a year earlier.

For the year to date, BMW Group sales slipped nearly 28 percent to 114,448 from 157,913.

BMW brand sales declined to 16,744 from 20,944, while Mini sales sagged to 4,105 from 5,211.

“June sales were similar to the current weather in the Northeast — rainy but warm with some bright spots,” said Jim O’Donnell, president of BMW North America LLC.
