POONCH - Wildlife authorities rescued a black bear trapped in a river of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

On being chased away by the wildlife department officials, the bear ran towards the Kalai River and was trapped. Officials captured the bear using a net and an anaesthetic injection.

“Our prime concern was the safety of residents as well as the bear. We kept an eye on the bear throughout the day. He ran towards the river and we used an anaesthesia injection to capture him,” said Shamsher Ahmed Qureshi, Divisional Forest Officer, Poonch.

A bear mauled two militants in Shopian district of south Kashmir recently.

Incidents of wild animals straying into urban areas, mainly owing to loss of habitat and extension of human settlements into forest areas, are on the rise across India. (ANI)
