CHENNAI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here Thursday denied that a Sri Lankan Tamil MP was campaigning on its behalf in the state.

‘Shivajilingam is not part of our campaign and to my knowledge has been only highlighting the plight of innocent Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka,’ state BJP vice president H. Raja told reporters here.

‘Further, his charges are the same as ours against the United Progressive Alliance government’s collaboration with the Lankan military machine against its Tamil ethnic minority. It is up to the Election Commission to find out the truth in the Congress allegations,’ Raja added.

Raja was reacting to questions by journalists with regard to complaints to the Election Commission that the BJP was using a foreign MP in its campaign.

Polling is scheduled in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry May 13.
