Bail granted for LA man after conviction tossed
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A federal judge has granted bail to a Los Angeles man who spent more than 26 years in prison for the killing of his mother.
U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips in Riverside made the move Tuesday in the case of 44-year-old Bruce Lisker.
It wasn’t immediately clear, however, if Lisker was able to make bail or if prosecutors planned to refile the charge.
Lisker was serving a life sentence for the March 1983 beating and stabbing death of his 66-year-old mother, Dorka.
Lisker, who was 17 at the time, said he found her dead on the floor of their San Fernando Valley home.
The judge overturned Lisker’s conviction last week, saying his trial was tainted by false evidence and poor defense work.
