Autopsy shows Wyo. mom shot husband, strangled son

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Autopsy results reveal that a 31-year-old Cheyenne woman shot her husband, strangled her 2-year-old son and then shot and killed herself last month.

The bodies of Joy Hofer, her 28-year-old husband Kelly and son Gunnar, were found July 25.

Laramie County Coroner Marty Luna said the child died from suffocation and strangulation, and that lidocaine, a numbing agent, had been placed on his face and was present in his blood.

The report also shows that Hofer’s husband, the child’s father, died sometime before the others from a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

The coroner’s office is awaiting results of an autopsy performed last month on the mother.

Authorities have said Hofer committed suicide and left a goodbye note on a computer.
