Austria: Doctors say 5 poison victims recovering
VIENNA — Doctors say five people who collapsed after they were given drug-tainted drinks at a Vienna bar are no longer in life-threatening condition.
Officials say the victims — three men and two women aged 19 to 29 — are recovering at hospitals and would be questioned.
Police say they are still trying to determine a motive for Sunday’s attack, which happened on a sunny afternoon at the All-In club, a small bar packed with up to 50 people.
Police arrested a suspect after witnesses said they saw a man offering the victims the drinks. Investigators identified the suspect only as a 42-year-old Viennese man with no criminal record.
Experts said Monday the victims’ symptoms were consistent with liquid Ecstasy, but said lab tests were still being done.
