Austria: Vigil held for Iranian victims
VIENNA — At least a thousand people have held a vigil in support of Iranian opposition protesters and victims of the country’s regime.
The participants, many of Iranian origin, sang folk songs and laid candles and flowers on the steps of Austria’s parliament.
Some attending the event Sunday evening held signs that read “No to violence in Iran” and “Stop beating and killing people in Iran.” Others shouted “The mullahs must go!” or waved Iranian flags.
State television inside Iran has said 10 people were killed and 100 injured in clashes Saturday between demonstrators contesting the result of the June 12 election and black-clad police wielding truncheons and using tear gas and water cannons.
