Some WaMu ATM customers unable to access money

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Some Washington Mutual customers were unable to access their money through WaMu ATMs for about 90 minutes early Friday morning.

ATMs in the New York Metro area and in four states — Illinois, Texas, Florida and Georgia — were affected by an electronic transaction glitch around 7 a.m. EDT, JPMorgan Chase & Co. spokesman Tom Kelly said. New York-based JPMorgan acquired the thrift Washington Mutual Inc. last year.

The majority of the ATM transactions went through without a problem, however some customers were not able to make cash withdrawals, Kelly said. It was not immediately known how many customers were affected.

By 8:45 EDT, the problem was resolved.
