Man arrested for allegedly firing at water tower
GARFIELD, Ark. — Authorities arrested a 56-year-old man on suspicion of firing a rifle at the town’s water tower, causing about $15,000 in damage. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said the man was arrested on suspicion of impairing the operation of a vital public facility and for criminal mischief. Both are felonies.
Authorities said the suspect admitted shooting the water tower with .308-caliber rifle.
Officials plan to plug the holes in the water tower Tuesday. The 880,000-gallon tower serves Garfield, Gateway and Lost Bridge in northwest Arkansas.
