NEW DELHI - The government has extended the anti-dumping duty on Vitamin-C imported from China for another five years, the Central Board Of Excise and Customs (CBEC) said Friday in a notification.

The duty, at the rate of $3.99 per kilogram of the vitamin, was imposed in October 2003 for five years.

“The performance of domestic industry had not improved during the continuation of anti-dumping duty on the subject goods,” the notification said.

“Discontinuation of anti-dumping duties on the subject goods from subject country would lead to the continuation of dumping and injury to the domestic industry,” it added.

The duty would be effective for five more years, the CBEC said.

Earlier, the government had imposed duty on several other Chinese products such as yarns, fabrics, colour picture tubes, some aluminium products and chemicals.

According to a World Trade Organisation (WTO) report, India initiated the highest number of 42 anti-dumping investigations, followed by Brazil and China, between July and December 2008.
