CHANDIGARH - Punjab’s ruling Akali Dal Sunday expelled former legislator Gaganjit Singh Barnala, the son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, for his anti-party activities.

‘Barnala and Baldev Singh Mann have been expelled from the party for their anti-party activities. We will not tolerate any indiscipline from any party worker,’ Akali Dal president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said in a statement.

Gaganjit Singh Barnala had courted controversy here two years ago after a maid accused him of raping her. A court later acquitted him.

Surjit Singh Barnala is a former chief minister of Punjab.
