NEW DELHI - The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) have signed an agreement to undertake the maintenance work of a list of ASI protected monuments.

An IATO statement Monday said the salient features of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) include refurbishing and maintenance of the toilet blocks in a list of Delhi and Jaipur monuments, which has been prepared by the IATO and submitted to the ASI, on a day-to-day basis.

Not just that, the toilets will be made user-friendly and accessible to the physically challenged.

While the infrastructure work will be taken up by the ASI, there will be joint inspections by both bodies on the need for any work that needs to be done in the monuments.

The Monument Infrastructure Development Committee of IATO, along with members of the ASI, Delhi will be the nodal body of expert personnel which would be responsible for earmarking, planning and execution of the project.

IATO will look into the maintenance work for a period of five years initially. The MoU in this regard, signed Dec 15, will be up for renewal thereon.
