3-alarm fire breaks out on Atlantic City boardwalk

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Officials say a three-alarm fire has broken out on the boardwalk in Atlantic City.

Deputy police Chief Joseph Nolan says the fire Saturday is at the Central Pier. Nolan says four shops were affected by the fire.

Thick black smoke was billowing out of the pier on the beach side of the boardwalk, between St. James Place and Tennessee Avenue. Wind is blowing the smoke out over the ocean.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured in the fire.
