11 killed in truck-bus accident in Zimbabwe
HARARE, Zimbabwe — Police say a truck hit a bus head-on in Zimbabwe, killing 11 people including six members of a family returning from a funeral.
Rangarirai Mushaurwa, an assistant police commissioner, said Wednesday the truck driver, who was among the dead, was trying to overtake a third vehicle Tuesday night just outside Harare. The 10 others victims also were riding in the truck.
Earlier this month, 40 people were killed when a bus collided with a truck south of Harare.
Such accidents are common in Zimbabwe and are blamed on excessive speed, poor maintenance of vehicles, worn tires and poor roads. Routine road repairs have stopped amid the nation’s economic meltdown.
