10 injured in Kolkata jail clash

KOLKATA - Eight detenus under trial and two jail wardens were injured when two groups of inmates fought pitched battles at the Alipore Central Correctional Home here Sunday over theft of tiles from its premises.

“The two groups of undertrials had old rivalries. They clashed Sunday accusing each other of stealing tiles being used in some renovation work carried out by the Public Works Department,” said Inspector General of Prisons B. D. Sharma.

Two of the wardens were injured when they tried to separate the clashing groups, who used bricks lying scattered in the premises for the PWD work to attack one another.
