Guard dead, 2nd person hurt in robbery at Wal-Mart

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Police near Tacoma, Wash., say an armored car guard was killed and a bystander wounded as two men robbed the guard at a bank inside a Wal-Mart.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies and Lakewood police were looking for two men who grabbed a money bag from the guard and drove off after shooting him Tuesday afternoon.

Loomis armored cars spokesman Pat Flaherty said the victim, 39-year-old Kurt Husted, had been with the company 16 years.

Lakewood Police Lt. Heidi Hoffman said a customer was shot in the shoulder but his wound was not life-threatening.

Husted was shot as he was leaving the Anchor Bank branch inside the store. Hoffman said the only shot fired hit both men.

Hoffman wouldn’t say how much cash was in the bag.
